JERSEY CITY — A person was struck by a taxi and killed on Kennedy Boulevard in the Jersey City Heights this morning, officials confirmed this morning.
The fatal crash occurred at Leonard Street when the person, identified at the scene as a male was crossing Kennedy Boulevard at about 6:20 a.m., according to police at the scene.
He was struck by the taxi, which was traveling south, and thrown about 50 feet, said Joe Shine, a freelance photographer for The Jersey Journal who was at the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigating recovered a Yankees baseball hat and sneakers from the busy four-lane roadway. The speed limit on Kennedy Boulevard there is 25 miles per hour.
The driver of the taxi remained at the scene and was interviewed by police. It did not appear that he was injured. Details on the accident were not immediately available.
Earlier this month a Jersey City man was killed on Kennedy Boulevard in Union City when he was involved in anearly morning collision with a garbage truck.
