I KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE-HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT
My name is Santo Artusa, Jr., and I am the lead attorney and owner of the Artusa Law Firm of Jersey City, one of the most active family law and divorce firms in New Jersey. I will tell you a little bit about myself and how my story applies to both men and women who have legal issues and knowing what it is like to try to understand the court system, to seek justice and to be able to obtain legal relief. Before I became a lawyer, I was just a single guy living in Manhattan. The relationship between the woman and I had been dating began to deteriorate while she was pregnant. I would said x, she would say y. My daughter was born premature on the 4th of July. We had no idea if she would make it but when I placed my hand in the incubator, my daughter grabbed my finger so hard I knew three things, she was strong, was my daughter and she would make it. She did. What ensued after that is what led me to attend law school at night and become an attorney, the first and only one in my family. From the point she left the hospital, I could only see my daughter in a supervised setting.
THE FRUSTRATION AND CONFUSION GROWS
I continued to grow frustrated that I was being treated like a criminal. I was summoned to Manhattan’s family court where I was only allowed to see my daughter once per week in a supervised setting in downtown New York. I was livid but I did what I had to do. My lawyer did not explain to me why I had to do this, why I was forced to have supervised visits, why I was being treated like a stranger. As time went on and I kept pushing, I was allowed to have weekend overnight parenting time but issues began right from the start with pickups and drop-offs at the Lower East Side Police Station. Again, as a man raised in an intact family in New York, the mere thought of having to pick up my child at a police station was disheartening, but again, I complied.
THE DAY I WILL NEVER FORGET
Then the day that I will never forget came. I went to pick up my daughter on Thanksgiving for holiday parenting time and the police surrounded me and told me I had to leave or I would be arrested. I was 25 years old, had no idea what was going on but the officer told me, “She went to court and indicated that you would kill her and the Judge blocked your visit.” My family waiting to have our first holiday with her on Long Island was so upset as was I.
PERSEVERANCE AND LEVITY, KEYS TO EXCELLENT LEGAL REPRESENTATION
I was about to totally give up and when I went to court that Monday with my lawyer, he pulled me aside and said, ” Don’t give up, you have been through so much to get here, you are on your way and will win.” I listened and I am glad I did. Because of this, I went on to become a family law, domestic violence and divorce lawyer. Not only to represent people but to help solve problems, to prevent things from getting worse, for both parents to have the joy of being with their children and for people to be able to move on from divorce. I try my best to explain how the various courts work, what judges look for, court procedures, local rules, how to dress, how not to act, how to be patient, how to be persistent and how to persevere through legal obstacles, and how to present a case before a Judge so your voice is actually heard. Trust me, I have been there and my team and I can help you with any legal situation.

CHOOSING THE BEST ATTORNEY FOR YOUR DIVORCE OR FAMILY LAW CASE IN JERSEY CITY-NEW JERSEY In choosing an attorney concerning something as important as divorce or family law matters, it is critical that you feel comfortable with the professional you hire and that the lawyer understands your goals. The attorney should be realistic with you when discussing the positives and negatives regarding your position. Will the attorney you are meeting with actually handle your case from beginning to end? Many firms have you meet with an experienced attorney and then when it comes time to go to court, they switch it up with someone that either you never met or is new to family law, beware as the devil is in the details and the attorney handling your case needs to know all aspects of your case. If a divorce lawyer promises you anything more than the best he or she can do, walk away. Nobody can predict with 100% accuracy what a divorce court Judge will do. Handling divorce cases in Jersey City requires the ability to understand the position of both parties and try to reach a positive resolution so you and your family can move forward. In cases when it is not possible to reach an amicable agreement because of your spouse or because of your spouse’s lawyer, we are more than ready to go to trial. We have seen it all. Jersey City Divorce Attorney Santo Artusa Jr., has extensive court room experience and is fluid in courtroom strategies and oral argument. You will feel confident when walking into a courtroom with Mr. Artusa. His ability to connect to people and ability to persuade is something that most people cannot do regardless of how hard they try. These strengths go much further than simply having legal knowledge that anyone can gain from reading a book, these are characteristics one is born with.
